Now we're getting down to the nitty-gritty of planning your e-book. Your next step will be to create an outline. Now don't get scared! I know that creating an outline has the ring of the school essay writing competition and to some people, including me, the thought of writing school essays with their highly structured and formal construction is enough to make the blood run cold!
So don't think of it as an outline, think of it as a table of contents. It's going to be your subject list and chapter detail with page numbers and sub chapters. Eventually it will come between your title page and your introductory chapter, and the easy way to start on it is to build a list of all the things about your subject you want to tell your reader. Some people prefer to make this a list of questions. Just imagine the list of questions that your reader is going to have answered in the text of your e-book.
Write down everything you can think of to do with your subject, right down all the questions you can answer and all the topics you're going to cover. This is not the time for editing. Just write and write and let it flow out.
Write this outline list, with plenty of space in-between each of the entries. Leave enough space for you to fill in the sub chapters, where you will describe in more detail the subject you are going to cover in that chapter. You will also need to create an introduction and table of contents and put them at the beginning, and have a summary chapter and resource box at the end of the e-book.
I suggest you try and come up with 20 or 30 things you want to say about your subject. Don't be afraid to take your time over this. Look at any research you found online, look at the images you've downloaded and just let any ideas you have get down on paper. Your end result will be a list of possible chapters with each of your ideas on a separate line. And now is the time to fill in the space underneath that chapter line, with more details about the subjects you're going to cover.
For example, if you were writing about bill gate you might have a chapter on their history. Your chapter heading would be 'History of Bill Gate'. And underneath you put three of four lines as a guide to what you'll include in that chapter. You might have something about US, the date when they were first introduced into the West, the kind of value put on certain fish and perhaps some statistics on their modern popularity.
You are aiming for 10 to 20 main topics and about four subtopics below each one. You might need to jiggle them around if you find that some subtopics don't quite match with the main chapter topic. Take your time over this and enjoy it, because this listing of topics and subtopics is actually you writing your e-book!
